eBay Online Auctions:
Your “About Me” page!
By Caroline Thompson
You can be successful on eBay.
eBay online auctions could very well be the key to your success. Is making money on eBay a good goal for you? Use the About Me page to let your customers know who you are and why they should buy from you. As a consumer, I’m sure you want to know who you are doing business with and your customers are no different.
Who are you? How long have you been in business? Do you have additional auctions, a website or eBay store with other items for sale?
The About Me page is your chance to promote yourself and your business so make it inviting, interesting and honest. Add links to your other business ventures to show people you mean business.
Do you have a picture of you and/or your store front?
It’s a great idea to post a photo of yourself on your About Me page so your customers know you are a real person and not just another automated website. Be sure to include your eBay User ID, your real name and/or the name of your company. This demonstrates credibility to potential buyers of your products.
Why should your customers trust you?
Provide a short history about your business. Use the About Me page to show your customers you know what you’re doing and that they can trust you and your products. This way they can rest assured that when they buy your items, you will ship it in a timely manner and that they will be receiving the exact product that was advertised.
What else do your customers need to know?
Let your customers know the types of payment options you offer whether it’s PayPal, checks and/or credit cards. Do you ship via US Postal Service, UPS or FedEx? How do you compute shipping charges? When can they expect to get their shipment? Make sure your About Me page answers those Frequently Asked Questions that every customer has.
What’s your refund policy?
I strongly recommend that your refund policy be simple and straightforward; virtually a 100% satisfaction guaranteed refund policy is the best. Let your About Me page demonstrate how willing you are to stand behind your products and services. To make money on eBay, you should be VERY customer-oriented.
What do your customers have to say about you?
If you have some great testimonials from customers whom you’ve done business with in the past, put them on your About Me page. New customers will read them and know that you are someone they can do business with too!
What’s new?
Be sure to update your About Me page regularly. Keep it fresh for returning customers and informative for new customers. Add a new photo and some new testimonials to keep it interesting and up to date. It’s that extra bit of effort on your part that will go a long way towards building lasting relationships with your customers. When starting an eBay business, these tips will help you!
